Miles joins a cast of American jazz talent traveling to Paris—his first time outside of the U.S.—to perform as part of the Festival International du Jazz in its inaugural year. Charlie Parker, Sidney Bechet, Hot Lips Page, Max Roach, and Kenny Clarke are among the group. The two-week trip is a game-changer for Miles, allowing him to experience a much more racially tolerant society, and meeting the actor and singer Juliette Greco, with whom he falls deeply in love.
