Miles auditions two young players (his sidemen from this point forward will remain primarily 20-somethings) to play with George Coleman and Ron Carter: pianist Herbie Hancock, currently working with Donald Byrd, and drummer Tony Williams, then still a teenager. The majority of Miles’ Second Great Quintet are in place.
