“Donna Lee” / Gil Evans

Miles, as a member of Charlie Parker All-Stars, composes and records “Donna Lee”—named for Duke Jordan’s daughter. The tune is mistakenly credited to Parker, and within weeks of its release, arranger Gil Evans searches out Miles for permission to record the song with the Claude Thornhill big band, a favorite of Miles. A lifelong association and friendship is born.
