Carnegie Hall

Miles headlines with his quintet and the 21-piece Gil Evans Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, performing current repertoire and reprising selections from his collaborations with Evans, including “So What” (Evans composed the introduction to the tune). The concert credits the African Research Foundation as presenter and benefactor, an aid organization which to some, like Max Roach, was seen as a front for colonial interests. In the middle of Miles’ set, Roach and other protesters entered onstage, holding signs reading “Africa for Africans,” and the like. They were removed and Miles continued the concert.
