Robert Glasper, Polygraph ‘Art of Sampling’ Features Miles Davis Reimagined On ‘Ghetto Walkin”

Grammy-winning Robert Glasper Teams Up with Polygraph and Legacy Recordings to Present the “Art of Sampling,” an Interactive Online Music Experience featuring Miles Davis Reimagined on Glasper’s “Ghetto Walkin'”

October 4, 2016 – New York, NY — Grammy-winning American jazz/R&B/hip-hop musician Robert Glasper has joined forces with Polygraph (a publication for thoughtful, visually-driven storytelling) to present the “Art of Sampling,” an interactive online musical experience built around “Ghetto Walkin’,” featuring vocals by Bilal and tracks by Miles Davis and Robert Glasper. “Ghetto Walkin'” is the first track from from Everything’s Beautiful, Glasper’s reimagining of Miles Davis’s music released earlier this year on Columbia/Legacy Recordings in celebration of Miles’ 90th birthday.

Live now at http://polygraph.cool/sampling/, “Art of Sampling” incorporates clips of Glasper discussing how he sampled the music of Miles Davis to create the new grooves heard on Everything’s Beautiful.

The site guides users through the sampling process, providing them with the opportunity to deconstruct and reconstruct Glasper’s “Ghetto Walkin’,” as inspired by a haunting two-chord motif from Miles’ own “The Ghetto Walk” (from Columbia/Legacy’s The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions). Visitors to the “Art of Sampling” may add or remove individual elements comprising “Ghetto Walkin'” (including tracks featuring Robert Glasper, Miles Davis and Bilal) to generate their own unique mix of the song.

“It fit like a glove to tell the story of a young black man in 2016,” said Robert Glasper about the making of Everything’s Beautiful and “Ghetto Walkin’.” “Miles is always relevant, that’s his genius.”

“Pianist Robert Glasper is my jam,” said Polygraph founder Matt Daniels. “He bridges jazz and hip hop, classic and modern. In July 2016, he dropped this track, ‘Ghetto Walkin,’ which sampled Miles Davis. I became fascinated with Robert’s thought process: how genius samples genius.”

“Ghetto Walkin’,” featuring neo-soul vocalist Bilal, was the first track to be released from Everything’s Beautiful—a visionary exploration of Miles Davis’ music, showcasing reimagined interpretations of his music produced by Grammy-winning jazz/R&B/hip-hop musician Robert Glasper with Executive Producers Erin Davis, Cheryl Davis and Vince Wilburn, Jr. An animated video for the song premiered via The FADER.

Legacy Recordings and Polygraph first partnered last May to commemorate Miles’ 90th birthday with the launch of the Universe of Miles Davis, an immersive destination website visualizing the astounding ongoing cultural impact and importance of Miles Davis.
