Grammy Museum Hosts 40th Anniversary Tribute to Bitches Brew

The GRAMMY Museum recently paid tribute to the 40th Anniversary of Miles Davis’ jazz-funk-rock masterpiece Bitches Brew, which was just released in both deluxe and collector’s box set editions.

Ranked as one of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Bitches Brew is widely regarded as his seminal fusion masterpiece which changed the course of music. Recorded at the end of a tumultuous decade (August 1969), Bitches Brew reflected the chaos and beauty of a society stretched (and stressed) to its breaking point. This genre-bending, barrier-smashing double LP would become Miles’ first RIAA gold album. The multi-media presentation honored the true genius of Miles Davis, demonstrating how he seamlessly fuses the classic with the contemporary, and why he continues to generate so much attention nearly two decades after his passing.

The evening was hosted by KKJZ’s Bubba Jackson and also featured jazz great Bennie Maupin (who played on Bitches Brew), recording artist/DJ Henry Rollins, DJ Jeremy Sole (KCRW), KPFK’s Maggie LePique, Erin Davis (son of Miles Davis, representing Miles Davis Properties, LLC) and Vince Wilburn, Jr. (nephew of Miles, representing Miles Davis Properties, LLC).
