Chick Corea: What Miles Davis Taught Him About Leading A Band – MLive Interview

Keyboardist Chick Corea’s father was a jazz trumpeter who got his son started in music. It was another jazz trumpeter, Miles Davis, who launched Corea on the road to success in music.

“Miles was a great leader in the second half of the 20th century. …When he had an idea to hear his music a certain way, he didn’t ask for licenses. He didn’t call the government or ask his musicians or a critic,” Corea said. “He went ahead and pursued his idea.”

…”The strength and simplicity of his integrity in the way he made his music is the single thing that’ll stay with me forever,” Corea said. “It set a standard for me. I want to live that way.”
