September 28: Today's date is the 19th anniversary of the death of Miles Davis. Miles' influence and impact, however, are still alive and as powerful as ever: Sony Music is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of "Bitches Brew" with a lavish box set tribute. Today's featured album is an earlier landmark: 1967's "Nefertiti," which was recorded with Miles' legendary "second quintet," and was the artist's final fully acoustic album.

Don Cheadle was recently interviewed by Vibe magazine about his plans to play Miles Davis in a new film. In the interview, Cheadle said, "Biopics are concerned with cradle to the grave depictions of a subject and character. This movie is much more expressive. And in my opinion, we're hopefully making a movie that Miles would want to be in as opposed to it just 'being about Miles.'"

Last Friday, J&R Music in NYC held a Bitches Brew Playback / Q&A with Lenny White and Ashley Kahn. Check out the photos from the event.

The GRAMMY Museum recently paid tribute to the 40th Anniversary of Miles Davis’ jazz-funk-rock masterpiece Bitches Brew, which was just released in both deluxe and collector’s box set editions.

Ranked as one of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Bitches Brew is widely regarded as his seminal fusion masterpiece which changed the course of music. Recorded at the end of a tumultuous decade (August 1969), Bitches Brew reflected the chaos and beauty of a society stretched (and stressed) to its breaking point.

Last night, Thursday, September 9, Dogfish Head Brewery Owner Sam Calagione, hosted a dinner / celebration at the restaurant, Eleven Madison Park in New York City, to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Miles Davis Bitches Brew. Not only the classic album, but the Dogfish Head Bitches Brew.
