September 28: Today’s date is the 19th anniversary of the death of Miles Davis. Miles’ influence and impact, however, are still alive and as powerful as ever: Sony Music is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of the release of “Bitches Brew” with a lavish box set tribute.

Today’s featured album is an earlier landmark: 1967’s “Nefertiti,” which was recorded with Miles’ legendary “second quintet,” and was the artist’s final fully acoustic album. Here’s the beautifully pensive cover to that release.
