A Look Back At The Miles Davis Festival

The Miles Davis Festival in Chicago recently ended, and we're taking a look back at one of the events -- when River North Dance Chicago created a collection of dances to demonstrate the fluidity, technical brilliance, and storytelling narrative in Davis' body of work.

Leading up to the performance, choreographer Frank Chaves found that he developed an intimate relationship with the music. "You do that with all scores you work with, though it's more difficult with him, his music is so personal," Chaves said. "It's truly amazing how these guys in his recordings speak through these instruments with finite detail, connecting to the deepest part of your soul. I found myself taken back to my days (of) first listening to music, hearing someone play a solo and relishing every note and riff."

You can read more about the dance production at the Chicago Tribune.
