The title refers to FRELIMO (FRENTE DE LIBERTAÇÃO DE MOÇAMBIQUE = MOZAMBIQUE LIBERATION FRONT), the anti-Portuguese guerrilla movement founded in 1961 that fought to reach independence. On June 25, 1975 Mozambique gained its independence from Portugal.

"Calypso Frelimo" comes from the album "Get Up with It" collecting tracks recorded between 1970 and 1974 by Miles Davis and released on November 22, 1974 as a double LP.
