Miles Davis Featured In Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery Exhibition ‘American Cool’

You can’t have an exhibition about the concept of “cool” without Miles Davis.

Miles Davis is one of 100 people included in the new exhibition “American Cool” at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, which begins today and runs until September 7th.

Each person was selected based on having at least three of the following four characteristics:

  1. An original artistic vision carried off with a signature style.
  2. Cultural rebellion or transgression for a given generation.
  3. Iconic power, or instant visual recognition.
  4. A recognized cultural legacy.
