First Look At Planned Miles Davis Statue In Alton

Plans are underway to honor Miles Davis with a bronze statue in his birthplace of Alton, Illinois, and here is a first look at an artist rendering of the statue to be created by sculptor Preston Jackson. The artwork pictures the statue on West Third Street in Alton’s downtown entertainment district.

The artwork is one of four artist renderings to be unveiled during introduction ceremonies on July 20, the Alton Telegraph reports. The events will include a quartet playing from 4 to 5 p.m. local time followed by Jackson’s introduction, just before the launch of the Downtown Block Party. The statue is being paid for in part by sales of engraved bricks and blocks that will surround the statue.
