Columbia/Legacy has put together numerous highly respected and Grammy-winning box sets on the ever-evolving career of Miles Davis, the "Picasso of Jazz." The numbered sets refer primarily to his studio material recorded at Columbia Records over a thirty year tenure. By numbering them, we are attempting to break up his work either stylistically or temporally into thematic niches. We thus show Miles Davis as an artist in constant flux. Though we make these sets out of sequence, there will ultimately be seven of them in total. This will represent one of the most comprehensive and critically-acclaimed reissue programs dedicated to a single artist in the music industry. Currently, the numbered set which has yet to be tackled is Seven Steps To Berlin (Box #3). This will follow in the ensuing years.
Other sets, such as The Columbia Years or The Complete Live At Plugged Nickel serve a different purpose. They may show a sweeping overview of his output, as in the Columbia Years, or focus on a very specific event (such as an entire weekend at the Plugged Nickel nightclub).
